You ever just sit outside, minding your business, thinking life is calm, peaceful, borderline cinematic…
And then your rosacea says, “Let’s spice things up.”
That was me last night.
The dew point and humidity dropped to 18 so fast, and my skin immediately turned into a cautionary tale.
Red, hot, blotchy. Pissed!
Yes, I have my own skincare line.
Yes, I used it earlier that day.
And yes—rosacea still came for me like I had insulted its mother.
Why?
Because when the air gets bone-dry, transepidermal water loss kicks in full force. That’s the fancy way of saying the air straight-up sucks the moisture out of your skin like a thirsty little demon.
So here’s how I shut it down before it got worse:
My Emergency Rosacea Flare Protocol
Step 1: Ivermectin first.
I always apply this before skincare during a flare. It helps reduce inflammation—and I skipped my tret last night and will again tonight. No need to add more fuel to the fire.
Step 2: Water Elixir.
Pressed in, not rubbed. This brings water back into the skin. It’s like giving your face a drink without using anything that’ll irritate it.
Step 3: Water Oil.
Layered on top of the Elixir. This locks in that hydration so it doesn’t just evaporate into the dry air like a broken promise.
Step 4: Intense Barrier Cream.
Think of this like giving your skin a weighted blanket and a pep talk. Pressed it in gently—again, no rubbing.
Step 5: Water Balm.
My personal holy grail. This seals the deal, hydrates, soothes, and basically tells your skin, “You’re safe now.” Cools the skin too. Locks all the things in. Stops TEWL quickly.
Step 6: A handheld fan.
Just a gentle breeze to cool down the skin’s surface. Not too much—you don’t want to dry things out more. Just enough to say, “Hey, let’s stop burning.”
Step 7: Let it marinate. 🤣
I left it all on like a skin-saving casserole, let the products do their thing, and didn’t touch my face for the rest of the night. Ok well you get the point. We gotta laugh, right sensitive skin friends?
The Result?
Ten minutes later, I could already see my skin calming down.
It didn’t feel like it was on fire anymore, and I didn’t look like I’d just run a marathon in a sauna.
By morning?
Back to normal. Little red but much better than hours earlier.
And honestly, the Barrier Repair Trio (Water Elixir, Water Oil, Intense Barrier Cream) + Water Balm?
That combo is the reason I didn’t wake up looking like I’d been slapped by the weather channel.
Quick Tip:
If your skin ever suddenly turns red, hot, or reactive—check the humidity and dew point. Then flood your skin with Water Elixir, Water Oil and Intense Barrier Cream as many times a day as you need.
Water Elixir is the best for carrying in your purse if you need a little splash, and it won’t disturb makeup if you press it in.
If the humidity is under 50%, your barrier could be vulnerable, especially if you’re dealing with rosacea, sensitive skin, or any kind of inflammation.
When that happens:
Hydrate. Seal. Soothe.
Don’t wait. Don’t guess. Don’t rub. Press.
Have you ever had a rosacea flare hit out of nowhere like that? Mamma mia.
